Knitting, spinning, pets, food and other thoughts

I picked the first Brandywine tomato the other day – we enjoyed it cut into wedges and dressed lightly with a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and sprinkled with fresh basil and chives. It was so good I wish I’d done more than one planter. Tomato #2 may be big enough for BLT’s πŸ™‚ I also tried a cherry-type tomato in an upside down planter, but those are still very green.

The cayenne peppers are starting to turn red – not sure yet how hot they are, but there sure are a lot of them!

  1. We had our first Brandywines this weekend, too. Love them!!!! Have you been to Vom Fass on Manchester in Maplewood, yet? The best balsamic vinegar I have ever tasted. All different kinds, too! It’s west of Schlafly’s Bottleworks and east of Penzey’s.

  2. I’m still waiting for the Black Krims to ripen, another week maybe and the heirlooms haven’t appeared at the market yet. You can’t ever plant enough tomatoes, just not possible.

  3. Looks good-we have huge Brandy Boys and Cherokee Purple
